Gems to Heal: A Fundraiser for Typhoon Haiyan Victims February 12, 2014 00:14

On November 8, 2013, a world history was marked when the super typhoon Haiyan, Yolanda as named locally, hit the Visayan region of the Philippines, leaving an estimated 12 million people homeless and devastated by the calamity.

With the massive destruction brought about by this calamity, millions of Filipinos are at risk for survival. It will be a long process of rebuilding and rehabilitation and people from all economic status feel they need to do whatever they can, however big or small, to help. Shortly after the super typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines, financial aid and relief good donations from countries around the globe started pouring in. All Filipinos are grateful to all who have shown their love and support.

We, @ NeonAmber Jewels feel that we need to do something to extend our support to the #Yolanda #Haiyan typhoon victims. It is with this aspiration that the “Gems to Heal” Fundraiser was launched. A collection of NeonAmber Jewels are handpicked and made to be part of this collection. They are featured in our NeonAmber Jewels Page, a collection of pieces with tribal, religious and ethnic designs, and a touch of modern flare, staying true to our color as Filipinos. We also included modern designs showcasing lampwork glass beads donated by local artists who have shown amazing support to this worthy cause. 100% of the proceeds for every item sold will be donated to our agency of choice, Canadian Red Cross – the leading humanitarian organization through which people voluntarily demonstrate their caring for others in need. Shortly after the typhoon hit the southern part of the Philippines, Canadian Red Cross have extended its help and arrived at the devastated areas of Leyte. They have set-up field hospitals and delegated medical staff, which is operating at full capacity on the heavily damaged island of Leyte. Their mission is to ensure essential health needs of more than 100,000 people are met. This includes surgical, pharmacy, maternity, pediatric services and psychosocial support. In its first week of operation, their medical team delivered more than 60 babies, performed 24 life-saving surgeries, and the children’s ward was at full capacity.

The Canadian government have extend their match-up dollar-for-dollar program to any donations made to this relief efforts until December 23. We are calling on our friends and patrons to support this cause. By purchasing our “Gems to Heal Collection”, you get your holiday shopping done early and help the Haiyan survivors rebuild their lives at the same time. This is the purchase worth spending for.

We appreciate all your support and if interested to purchase from our Gems to Heal Collection, simply write SOLD on the comment section of the item you are purchasing or email maria@neonamber.com.
